Common faults with an air conditioning unit

Air conditioning units are vital pieces of equipment as they make sure an indoor area is kept at a required temperature. Whether this is through convenience or necessity, it is likely that your air conditioning system will be relied upon when the warmer weather hits. So, if it encounters a fault, you can be left in a very uncomfortable position until a professional comes out to look at it.

If you need an air conditioning unit for your business, then any downtime can be even more costly, which is why a professional air conditioning repair service is so important. In the worst case scenario, customers won’t want to return to your facility as it’s in a state of uncomfortable heat that we all try to avoid! To make sure you don’t experience this problem or to nip it in the bud quickly if it does occur, here are some common faults you can spot and fix before it turns into a larger issue.

Coil checks are a must!

Coils are a crucial component in all air conditioning units, as they are the driving force behind the “production” of that sweet cool air that we long for. Evaporator coils absorb the hot air and redistribute it as cooler air using multiple ducts. They can become corroded which can limit their ability to perform the role, meaning that your overall system can become faulty.

The condenser coil works in tandem with its evaporator counterpart, ensuring that the warm air absorbed by the unit can be released to the outdoors. It is important to check on the condition of this unit every so often as it can become damaged when exposed to the outside elements. If they become too dirty, then they may need an AC repair specialist to take a look.

Is your filter clean?

Another essential part of the air conditioning system is the filters. It ensures better quality air for those in the immediate vicinity, as it works hard to remove hindrances like smoke, pollen, dust and grease just to name a few! In order to maintain this high quality of air, you are going to want to make sure that your filter is up to standard at all times.

If you are suffering from a filter that is dirty, which can occur as a result of a prolonged period of neglect, then the airflow throughout the unit as a whole can be restricted drastically. To see if your filter is dirty, hold a white sheet of paper approximately 5 inches away from your unit when turned on. If this white turns to grey, then you know you are suffering from a dirty filter.

A refrigerant leakage

The refrigerant in your air conditioning unit is found as either a gas or a liquid and works in tandem with the other components of the system to absorb the heat from the environment and turn it into that flow of cooler air that we all long for. Having the right amount of refrigerant in your machine is a big deal, as a lack of this chemical can seriously dent the performance levels of your machine.

To check for the correct level of refrigerant, take a look at the two copper lines that run along your unit. If they feel cold to touch then you know that there is a sufficient amount left, if it doesn’t feel cold then you may need a commercial air conditioning repair expert to come and take a look at the problem.
